Reflections of a Champion

October 15, 2020

I can't believe it's been a week since I won the 2020 Thursday Night Men's League Championship.

It still doesn't seem real.

I think everything will start to sink in when I spend my shop credit, but for now I'm just enjoying basking in the euphoria.

I know nobody cares, but I'd like take a minute to give a shoutout to Stan Perry. He was a worthy adversary and no matter what you think about his ethics, the guy is a hell of a NET player. Tournament golf can be a cruel game, some people just don't have the 'tummy' to close things out down the stretch when it matters most.

Sadly, that's Stan in a nutshell.

There's some chatter around the club that Stan is upset with his daughter (Michelle) for allowing Marlow out of the house during last Thursday's match. I ran into L'Jarius at Bottoms Up last night and he said Michelle cut her visit to Kansas City short and is already heading back to Portland. Supposedly Stan's been a nightmare to be around this last week. I guess Marlow asked Papi (Stan) if he would take her to Build-a-Bear and Stan erupted by saying she has enough f***ing toys....then he (allegedly) grabbed her infamous plastic golf club and threw it across the room.

Oh well.

Anyway, I already sent the TNML plaque to a local trophy shop to have my name plate added. While it's there, I'm having Stan's name added as well for his 2019 title which I never got around to doing last year on account of being so busy.

One of the great things about winning a title is that no matter what happens, they can never take it away from you. It blows my mind to think that 100 years from now, a starry eyed kid will walk down the hallway near the utility closet and see that plaque hanging on the wall. He will scroll down through the years and stop at 2020 and see "Club Pro Guy" and he will probably think to himself........wow, what a player he must have been.

Now that the season's over, what's next for me?

People think it's crazy, but I'm already looking forward. That's what ELITE competitors do.

Believe it or not there are things I can do this offseason to get me ready for TNML 2021. Working on my swing in my @aboutGOLF_  simulator is a no-brainer, but there are also some handicap manipulation opportunities I'll have as well. Most notably, I'll be at my timeshare in Branson for a 1 night/2 day stay in early February which will give me an excellent opportunity to enter 2 bullshit scores.

Other than that, I'm going to focus on teaching for the next several months and being the best club pro I can be. In closing, I want to thank everyone for their support throughout this season, when I was down and out, your encouragement (and Marlow) pulled me through and I can't thank you enough!
